Public Activations

Mall and public space brand activations in the UAE and Saudi Arabia

Most people walk past most activations. The ones that work give people a reason to stop, something to do and something to take away or share. Brand X designs and runs brand activations in malls, streets and public venues, handling the concept, the build, the approvals, the staffing and the data capture, so the brand leaves with a crowd and a clear record of the results.

What the work covers

An activation starts with one question: what will someone do in the first few seconds after they notice it? We design the interaction first, then the structure around it, whether that is a pop-up, a stand, an installation or the takeover of a public space. We handle mall and landlord approvals, the build and installation, brand ambassadors, sampling stock and the consent wording for any data you collect.

Running an activation

Activations can run for a single weekend or a full season in busy places, so operations matter as much as design. We plan staff rotas, restocking, cleaning and daily checks, and keep the space looking as good on the last day as on the first. Footfall, participation and leads are reported in the format your team already uses.

Closing down

When the activation ends, the site is cleared and returned to the landlord in the condition agreed, and reusable elements are packed and stored for the next run where the client wants to keep them.

Questions

Do you get mall and venue approvals for the activation?

Yes. Malls, landlords and public venues each have their own approval process, covering design drawings, materials, fire safety, insurance and working hours for the build. We prepare the submissions, attend site meetings and schedule the build around the venue’s rules. Street and public space activations may also need permits from the local authority, which we plan for from the start.

Can the activation collect customer data?

Yes, with the right consent. Any data capture, whether a registration form, a competition entry or a photo share, needs clear wording on what is collected and why. We build that into the experience and pass the data to your team in an agreed format. UAE and Saudi data protection laws set rules on consent, so we plan for it in the design.

How do you measure whether an activation worked?

We agree the measures before the build: footfall, participation, samples handed out, sign-ups, social shares or sales, depending on the objective. The team on site records the numbers during the activation, and you receive a report with the results and photographs at the end. Clear targets at the start make the report useful.

Can one activation travel to several malls or cities?

Yes. A touring activation is designed to be packed, moved and rebuilt, with each venue’s approval process run in parallel. Brand X works from offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, as well as London and Shanghai, which helps when a tour moves between the UAE and Saudi Arabia or further afield.

What affects the cost of an activation?

The main factors are how long it runs, the location and any venue fees, the size and finish of the build, the number of staff, sampling stock and any technology such as screens or interactive games. A weekend pop-up and a season-long installation are budgeted differently. Send us the brief and we will prepare an outline budget with options.
